HUARAZ
SEEDS OF HOPE CENTRE AND SCHOOL
The Seeds of Hope school in Huaraz was opened in March 2006. We now help around 50 children aged between 6 and 18. We hold our school in a small house with 3 classrooms, a kitchen where we make food for the children and a bathroom where they can wash themselves. There is also a garden where the children plant vegetables and can play out safely after class. The children receive help with schoolwork from Monday to Thursday and on Friday we play sports with them. Some weekends we take the children out on trips into the countryside surrounding Huaraz to do sports and games.
ABOUT HUARAZ
Huaraz is one of the best places in South America to enjoy superb mountain scenery and plenty of outdoor activities such as trekking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, skiing and rafting. It's also a great place for the less adventurous, who enjoy going for day walks and exploring the villages and their lively markets. The setting of the city, at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca, is spectacular. You can see over 20 snow-capped peaks over 5000 meters, of which the most notable is Huascaran (6,768m), the highest mountain in Peru. Huaraz has two main mountain ranges, easily reached by public transport – the snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca (White Mountains) to the east and the Cordillera Negra (Black Mountains) to the west. Huaraz can provide all the facilities and infrastructure required by volunteers - just about everything you need is on or near the main street, Calle Luzuriaga, including restaurants, tour operators and agencies, banks and the post office.

CUSCO
SEEDS OF HOPE CENTRE AND SCHOOL
The Seeds of Hope centre in Cusco is opening at the beginning of October 2007 and will be starting with around 15 children. The school is approximately 20 minutes out of the city centre and is located in one of the poorer parts of town so that we can reach the children that need our help the most. The children will receive help with their homework from Monday to Thursday and on Fridays we will play games and sports with them.
The Seeds of Hope centre is a 5-10 minute taxi ride from the historical city centre. It has 4 volunteer bedrooms, a classroom for English language teaching, a lounge where volunteers can relax and a garden with patio, ideal for BBQs or enjoying the sunshine. It is in a quiet residential area with access to facilities such as supermarkets, launderettes and internet cafes.
ABOUT CUSCO
Cusco is one of South America´s biggest tourist attractions, offering a thriving Andean culture, Inca sites and arguably one of the world´s most attractive cities. Lodged within a highland valley it offers tourists easy access to world-famous sites such as Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. Tourists can walk, bike or horse-ride to famous Inca ruins, buy traditional Andean textiles from local colourful markets or just enjoy soaking up the atmosphere in the numerous bars and cafes. As a major tourist destination, all of the facilities required by volunteers are available within the relatively small city centre including restaurants, tour agencies, food markets, banks and post offices.
