Donate NowGIVE A ONE TIME - GIFTOur school helps over 45 impoverished children. Despite their unfortunate social and living conditions, each child arrives to SEEDS every day with a smile, lots of energy and respect for their professors and volunteers. All 45 children have been specially chosen to be a part of Seeds of Hope due to their impoverished circumstances. When the child and their parents commit to SEEDS, they agree to attend school, study hard, and show up to SEEDS daily, on time, and promise not to work on the streets. Most impoverished children in Peru are sent to work at a very young age, forgoing any education. You will often see them selling goods, begging for money, shining shoes, or even stealing. Oftentimes, our students’ parents leave their kids at home for weeks at a time with no food. Usually, the only food they do get is what little we can provide from Monday to Friday which consists of a boiled egg, a cup of watered down oats, and a fruit. Consequently, many of the children suffer from severe malnutrition. The children live with their entire families in one-room shacks with no running water, bathtub or toilet. In addition, many of the children are victims of alcohol abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse. The only consistent stability they can find is at Seeds of Hope where we foster a warm, welcome and structured environment with an emphasis on education and daily health. We teach the children about the importance of personal hygiene by providing them with a toothbrush, toothpaste, a hand washing station and shower. The children take pride in their classrooms and help their professors and volunteers to sweep and mop the floors as well as wash their own dishes on a daily basis. However, in order for SEEDS to continue to function and help each of these kids, we need proper funding. Our current operating budget for the organization is roughly $2,000 USD per month. This doesn’t even cover medical expenses, the cost of more nutritional food for the students or salary for our full-time Peruvian professor, Mariela, who is currently working for free. As of today, we have $2,500 in the bank and only four kids sponsored until the end of the year. It’s my goal to have every child, and Mariela, sponsored in the next year. For only $25 USD a month, you can provide a child with healthy food, school materials, a new uniform, shoes, and health coverage. That’s the equivalent of just three lattes or even one dinner. Still unsure? Just fall in love with these faces below. I have!
